The Vessyl Frequency Dome by Archisoul
Set within Costa Rica’s volcanic rainforest, the project brings together sacred geometry, multisensory technology and materials selected for their durability in the local climate and environmental conditions.
At the foothills of Arenal Volcano in Costa Rica, the Vessyl Frequency Dome forms the centrepiece of The Vessyl Experience, a wellness destination set within the tropical rainforest. Designed by Australian practice Archisoul Architects, the dome explores how architecture can shape sensory perception, creating an environment for sound therapy, meditation, breathwork and immersive performance.

Founded in 2012 by Jo Gillies, Archisoul is a Sydney-based practice working across residential, commercial and community architecture as well as specialised healing environments. Its approach centres on contextual, environmental and social sustainability, with an emphasis on site-responsive design, materiality and spaces that support human connection. The practice views architecture as a means of 'holding space' for its clients and the people who inhabit its buildings.

Measuring 12 metres in diameter, the domed structure is conceived as an enveloping environment. Six 9K projectors, spatial audio and speakers integrated into a sprung timber floor combine projected imagery, sound and physical vibration. The result is a multisensory setting in which the architectural enclosure becomes an active part of the experience, accommodating practices ranging from vibrational yoga to audiovisual performances.

Sacred geometry informed the design, establishing a geometric framework for contemplative and therapeutic practices. The dome transitions between stillness, movement and visual immersion, accommodating individual wellness sessions alongside community evening productions, where spatial sound, projected imagery and lighting transform the interior into a setting for collective artistic experiences.

Its relationship with the surrounding landscape is equally considered. The Vessyl Frequency Dome was positioned along existing pathways and within natural clearings to minimize disturbance to the site. Its copper-clad exterior embraces the material's capacity to evolve over time, with oxidation gradually transforming its appearance in response to the volcanic conditions of the tropical rainforest.

The initial bright and reflective surface, has already developed a deep brown patina in the humid atmosphere. As oxidation progresses, the surface is expected to develop the characteristic green tones associated with aged copper, gradually bringing the structure into closer visual dialogue with the surrounding canopy.

The Vessyl Frequency Dome demonstrates how contemporary wellness architecture can bring together spatial design, sound, light and vibration within a sensitive landscape. Located at The Vessyl Experience in Costa Rica, the project by Archisoul Architects offers a distinctive exploration of multisensory design, sacred geometry and material transformation, expanding the possibilities of architecture for wellness, meditation and immersive performance.
